I asked OpenAI ChatGPT questions about AI and creativity. Here is what it replied about itself. 🙃

Updated: Jun 11, 2023

But let's first start with the simple question that many ask: Why AI sucks?

Here is what AI said about AI.

Me: Why AI sucks?

ChatGPT: As an AI, I understand that some people may have concerns or criticisms about artificial intelligence.

Here are a few reasons why some people might say AI "sucks":

  1. Lack of understanding: AI systems are designed to process and analyze data, but they often lack true understanding or consciousness. This can lead to limitations in their ability to comprehend complex nuances or context, which can result in errors or misunderstandings.

  2. Bias and discrimination: AI algorithms are trained on large datasets, which can inadvertently include biases present in the data. If not properly addressed, this can lead to discriminatory outcomes or reinforce existing societal biases.

  3. Ethical concerns: AI raises ethical questions regarding privacy, security, and the potential for misuse. Issues such as data privacy, algorithmic accountability, and the impact on employment are subjects of ongoing debate and concern.

  4. Lack of human touch: Some people feel that AI lacks the human touch and emotional connection that comes with human interactions. While AI can provide efficient and accurate responses, it may not always be able to replicate the empathy, creativity, and intuition that humans possess.

  5. Job displacement: The advancement of AI and automation technologies has led to concerns about job displacement. Certain industries may experience changes or job losses as AI systems can perform certain tasks more efficiently and at a lower cost than humans.

  • It's important to note that AI is a rapidly evolving field, and while there are challenges and limitations, there are also significant benefits and potential for positive impact.

  • AI can enhance productivity, improve decision-making, and contribute to advancements in various fields.

  • It is crucial to continue developing and deploying AI systems in an ethical and responsible manner to address the concerns and maximize the benefits they can offer.

Well, do we agreed? Well, we do.

Let's move further to creativity.

Me: Why AI will never replace Fine Arts? ChatGPT: AI may never completely replace fine arts for several reasons:

  1. Creativity and originality: Fine arts, such as painting, sculpture, music, and dance, are expressions of human creativity and imagination. They often involve the exploration of emotions, aesthetics, and subjective experiences. While AI can generate art based on existing patterns and data, it lacks the depth of human creativity and the ability to produce truly original and innovative artistic expressions.

  2. Emotional depth and interpretation: Fine arts often convey complex emotions, personal experiences, and unique perspectives. They can evoke strong emotional responses and interpretations from the audience. AI, on the other hand, lacks human emotions and subjective experiences, which are integral to the creation and appreciation of fine arts.

  3. Expressing human experience: Fine arts are deeply rooted in the human experience and reflect the cultural, historical, and social contexts in which they are created. They can communicate stories, values, and social commentaries that resonate with individuals and communities. AI, as a machine-based system, does not possess personal experiences or the contextual understanding necessary to capture and convey the nuances of the human experience effectively.

  4. Artistic intuition and interpretation: Fine arts often involve intuitive decision-making, experimentation, and interpretation. Artists rely on their intuition, instincts, and subjective understanding to make creative choices. AI algorithms, while capable of analyzing data and patterns, lack the intuitive and interpretive capabilities that are intrinsic to the artistic process.

  5. Human connection and interpretation: Fine arts provide a platform for human connection and communication. They offer opportunities for dialogue, reflection, and shared experiences among artists and audiences. The personal connection and interpretation that occur in the presence of a live performance or a physical artwork cannot be replicated by AI.

  • While AI can contribute to the creative process, assist artists, and even generate impressive art pieces, it is unlikely to replace the depth, complexity, and human essence that fine arts offer.

  • AI can be seen as a tool that complements and enhances the artistic process, but the unique qualities and contributions of human artists are likely to remain irreplaceable.

And how about Writers?

Me: Why AI will never be a good writer?

ChatGPT: AI has made significant progress in natural language generation and has demonstrated the ability to generate coherent and grammatically correct text. However, there are several reasons why AI may never fully replace human writers:

  1. Creativity and originality: Writing involves creativity, imagination, and the ability to generate original ideas. While AI can mimic existing patterns and generate text based on large datasets, it lacks the depth of human creativity and the capacity to produce truly original and innovative pieces of writing. AI lacks the personal experiences, emotions, and unique perspectives that contribute to the richness and authenticity of human writing.

  2. Context and cultural understanding: Writing often requires a deep understanding of cultural references, social contexts, and nuanced language use. Human writers draw upon their personal experiences, knowledge, and cultural background to create content that resonates with readers. AI may struggle to capture the subtleties and cultural nuances necessary to produce writing that is relevant, relatable, and meaningful to diverse audiences.

  3. Subjectivity and interpretation: Writing is often subjective and open to interpretation. It can convey complex emotions, evoke empathy, and challenge readers' perspectives. Human writers bring their own subjective lens, emotions, and perspectives to their work, allowing for a range of interpretations and connections with readers. AI lacks personal experiences and emotions, which limit its ability to produce writing that elicits deep emotional responses and engages readers on a personal level.

  4. Voice and style: Every writer has a unique voice and writing style that distinguishes their work. Human writers develop their voice over time, influenced by their personality, experiences, and writing journey. AI may struggle to develop a distinct voice and consistent style that resonates with readers and establishes a personal connection.

  5. Adaptability and critical thinking: Writing often involves adapting to different genres, audiences, and purposes. Human writers can apply critical thinking skills to analyze information, synthesize ideas, and craft persuasive arguments. AI may struggle with the flexibility and adaptability required to write across diverse topics and effectively engage with complex subject matters.

  • While AI can be used as a tool to assist writers, generate drafts, or offer suggestions, it is unlikely to fully replicate the depth, creativity, and subjective elements that human writers bring to their craft.

  • AI can be seen as a valuable tool to augment the writing process, but it is unlikely to replace the unique abilities and qualities of human writers.

So let's be RADICALLY HONEST.

AI cannot replace Humans on the deepest level of creativity. Commercial Craft yes to a certain extent, but not Fine Arts.

Imitation sucks. Those people who mimic others too much never become truly fine artists, musicians or writers.

"Steal as Artist" a commonly known phrase to get inspiration from but not to recreate is not in favour of AI as decrease their own ability to create without the input of Human.

To have its own style AI needs to level up.

AI has a place, and it will have a place just like most inventions. It might even have a major place in comparison to anything else.

However, look around: even with the invention of the internet, e-books somehow people still buy hard-copy books, writers do write, publishers do print and tons of printed magazines are still available, even if they do not serve nature, trees, etc. (but that's for another subject).

Even if almost everyone has an entire library and news in their own pocket on their own smartphone still we do not get rid of books, Kindle claimed that years ago...but well it didn't happen.

Be calm. Use AI when you want to. Do not trust everything that you see, hear and read. Be sceptical and you will be fine. Trust after research never before at the start.

With the job market - adapt. As every other generation needed to. Do not blame the invention of AI.

Imagine the Sailors and Bus and Train drivers - did they blame Aircraft Pilots for taking their cargo and passengers?

Change with progress or against it will always exist. Adaptation is the survival key principle.

Followed by chit-chat with another human being included here as my commentary:

Me: Don't you worry, AI is damn stupid.

Mate: I see 😅

Me: The content created by GTP Chat is also too primary, repetitive, extremely boring and too familiar to each other.

There is no human feeling or touch, it isn't interesting.

So SEO (search engine optimisation) is not really that attractive to push the content to the front pages of web searches.

Ironic isn't it? 😏

So using GTP (collecting data for example) need to be still twisted by human to make it valuable to read.

Mate: 👍🏻

Mate: That’s true

Me: Check out what Nick has to say: The Red Hand Files

"What ChatGPT is, in this instance, is replication as travesty. ChatGPT may be able to write a speech or an essay or a sermon or an obituary but it cannot create a genuine song. It could perhaps in time create a song that is, on the surface, indistinguishable from an original, but it will always be a replication, a kind of burlesque."

Mate: “I don’t much like it — although, hang on!, rereading it, there is a line in there that speaks to me — ‘I’ve got the fire of hell in my eyes’ — says the song ‘in the style of Nick Cave’, and that’s kind of true. I have got the fire of hell in my eyes – and it’s ChatGPT.”

Hahah 😂

Me: The same with Art.

The Real Fine Arts cannot be inspired too much by what is exciting already, or mimic too much of someone's else style, theme, etc.

Art must be original. Otherwise, it is IKEA. Otherwise, it is just a craft. Craft is created to be sold followed by trends of mass consumption, not the artist's calling.

Art does not give fuck if it will be sold or not. At least when is in the process of creation.

Repetitiveness is not original. Regardless if it is done by humans or AI. After a while, the excitement about AI will be decreasing in the natural process of being outdated.

Why is so loud now about AI even though it was already there...have no idea, probably because it became open, OpenAI indeed.

And when will be open for too long it will become boring, overused, and overwhelming. We Humans quickly become disinterested, fatigued, and tired. So how AI could survive our disposal attitude what is dull and blasé? It has to do it fast as when we are still inattentive.

So maybe AI should be hidden somewhere else like God and only be seen through the suspicious eye searching for truth,...

Imagine having one of a million songs, poems, articles, and paintings (digital those days only) based on existing pieces collected in a database created by AI in a fast speed time.

It will become as cheap as the IKEA posters print on the canvas disposed of every season.

Mate: ❤️

Yeah, exactly, it is already written by Nick Cave, ‘I’ve got the fire of hell in my eyes’...

AI does not have its own style or theme, it has to be given "the text, sort of code language, or a phrase* to based on it.

There is a new profession: AI prompt writers - check this out if you want to be in tech.

Mate: Ok I will

Me: Instead of coding languages you learn to write text to AI.

Exactly the AI cannot choose itself what to write to start to produce anything. Still needs human. At least for another 50-100-150 years.

I asked GTP Chat why AI sucks:

here you have...simple answers.

OpenAI AI ChatGTP Katarzyna Hasnik UX Design UX Research

Me: About more 100 years ago 99.9%. of population didn't have access to paint brushes and mediums, music, eduction, books as it was too expensive for working class and farming class people. After Industrial Revolution things start to shift slowly.

The invention will always bring changes in jobs. And we have to embrace the change. And we have to embrace the change.
